August 29, 2018 – On Tuesday, Rep. Chris Smith presented Miguel Hernandez, a Korean War veteran, with 5 medals for his service. Hernandez was honored by Rep. Smith and his family for his service.
Hernandez served with the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment for a total of nine years. The regiment was based in Puerto Rico and was called “Borinqueneers.”
Smith called the Borinqueneers, “a group of Puerto Rican warriors who fought tenaciously, so much so the General MacArthur singled out the 65th and said how brave and how magnificently you performed in the Korean War,” reported NJ.com.
“We have nothing but admiration and respect for you,” Smith said while praising Hernandez for his service.
