August 25, 2018 – Rep. Smith recently introduced the PEPFAR Extension Act of 2018, bipartisan legislation that would extend the funding of programs that combat HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for another five years.
“Lives that once would have been lost to a dread disease, children that would have been orphaned, are now given a chance to lead healthy, productive lives,” Smith said.
As a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chair of the Subcommittee on Global Health, Rep. Smith is a longtime advocate for PEPFAR funding.
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, thanked Rep. Smith for his bipartisan leadership.
“Friends applauds the leadership of Representative Chris Smith… in introducing legislation to extend authorization of PEPFAR and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for five years,” Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS President Chris Collins said.
In 2015, Rep. Smith was honored by Children of God Relief Fund for his efforts in securing PEPFAR funding back in 2008.
